Nigeria Youth Refuse to stand for national anthem

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kaduna State, Batch B, yesterday refused to stand for the national anthem, an action which displeased Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero.
The incident occurred at the end of the closing ceremony of the 2014 Batch B’ orientation course at the NYSC camp. Our correspondent reports that the governor left the podium where he was addressing the youths to fish out the member, but was unable to find him as he had  “disappeared”. The governor then directed the state NYSC director, Hillary Nasamu, to present the corps member for ques-tioning, but he was also unable to find the culprit. The governor expressed disappoint-ment over the incident.

Fake NYSC Members arested In Camp

The Niger State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Steven Ehoda-adi, has said that 281 fake corps members were sent out of the Niger State orientation camp in Paiko because they didn’t have authentic documents.
Ehoda-Adi disclosed this yesterday at the close of the three weeks orientation exercise, at the camp as 3,259 of the Batch B corps members, 2014, successfully, completed the exercise for their primary assignment in the state.
He told journalists that all the fake corps members were immediately sent out of the orientation camp because they had nothing to show that qualified them for admission into the camp.
According to him, some of them gave the excuse of being attacked by armed robbers on their way to Minna and their call up letters taken away from them while some said they misplaced their call up letter.
He disclosed further that some of the corps members also presented only photocopies of the call up letter pointing out that the NYSC authority does not accept photocopy of the letter for admission into the camp.
Similarly, he stated also that 230 pregnant and nursing mothers who are corps members were disallowed from taking part in routine orientation exercise in the state.

The Emir of Kano is not an Hausa man

Boko Haram is not fighting for anything other than the seizure of political power by the Fulani people. They are using Kanuri territory to perpetrate the evil, but the main people instigating this bloodletting are the Fulani from Futa Djallon. We know where they came from. They are colonialists and if we made the British to leave, what are these people doing here? They are also colonialists.

You have to reflect and ask yourself some questions.
Kano is a Hausa city, the Emir of Kano is not a Hausa man; he is a Fulani. Ilorin is a Yoruba city, the Emir of Ilorin is a Fulani. Bida is a Nupe town, the Emir of Bida is a Fulani. Birnin Gwari is a Gbagi town, the Emir of Birnin Gwari is a Fulani. The Lamido of Adamawa who is residing in Yola is a Fulani, who claims he has other Fulanis in Cameroon and other places. These are not Fulani cities. We know where they all came from.
They all migrated from far-flung places to their present locations. So if we know where they come from and we know that they are not from here, they came to colonise these territories. What are they still doing here? If the British left, the French left, the Germans left, the Portuguese left, the Belgians left, what are these people doing here? They are also colonialists, but this is what our elites are ready to accept.
Why should we allow foreigners to dominate the aborigines? When people like us talk, they say these are very sensitive issues, don’t touch them. Why should we not touch them? Why should the Sultan of Sokoto be the head of Muslims in Nigeria? Where did we meet and make the Sultan our head? So these are the things. But a lot of people don’t look beyond the surface. A man says he is born to rule; you have not asked yourself, if that man is born to rule, what about you? If the man is born to rule, you are born to be ruled.
So you become drawers of water and hewers of wood. A wise man in one of the great books I have read said: For I have seen a grave injustice on the surface of the earth that I saw the servants riding on horseback and princes walking on foot. The Hausa man in Kano is walking on foot; Sanusi, a Fulani man, a Gambari from Guinea is riding on horseback.
Fulani Sulu-Gambari in Ilorin is riding on horseback. These are the issues that we’ve not been able to capture. Why should injustice continue? Why should the indigenous Hausa population in Kano not be given back what rightfully belongs to them? Why is it that in Ilorin, the indigenous Yoruba people, the ones they call Baba Agba, are not given back what rightfully belongs to them?

Why Husbands would become scarce in 2017

The recent alarm raised by the Catholic Women Organisation that husbands would become scarce in Nigeria in 2023 as many Nigerian spinsters are currently witnessing the no-husband syndrome.
Within the last few weeks, some of the ladies who spoke with our correspondent reported serious apprehension, pressure and a total lack of peace as the consequence of their inability to get married.

One of the ladies, who preferred to be simply called Titi said she had taken the issue of marriage as a do-or-die affair due to “internal pressure” but that as much as she had tried, frustration had often been the result.
At 37, the businesswoman who sells clothes in Ikeja, the Lagos State capital in western Nigeria, said that she is not finding life easy.
“What is happiness without a man in a woman’s life?”she asked our correspondent during a chat on Badoo, a relationship site on the internet.
She had dated several men with some promising marriage, but without fulfilling the promise.
“You can’t imagine that in the last three years, I have dated about eight men, but the relationship was often short-lived simply because I ask for their commitment.
“I am not getting any younger and I cry every time I see my mates with their husbands and children.
“If at 37 I don’t have a child or a permanent man, when would I have them? Is it when my skin has wrinkled? she asked our correspondent.
Chioma (surname withheld), 35, has found herself patronising many of the social interaction sites on the internet.
The banker told our correspondent that she is on Eskimi, 2go, Badoo, Whatsapp, and facebook

as well as 4clique, a site that was launched in Nigeria days ago.
“We can’t tell the particular broom in the bunch that kills a fly,” she told P.M.NEWS on why she patronises such number of social interaction sites.
“I always change my name in the different sites but the ultimate goal is to get a husband,” she added.
Chioma told P.M.NEWS that she is really worried about the situation, adding that she lives comfortably (in a mini-flat and has a car), “but who do I have to enjoy this comfort with me?
“I have tried a hook up programme on a Lagos-based radio station, but my age is now a major factor hindering my dream of being married,” she lamented pleading with our married correspondent, who she considered a bachelor, to “help dry my tears.”
A married woman, who gave her name as Mrs. Blessing Aguebor and resident in Oshodi, confirmed that the issue of lack of serious men for marriage is giving many ladies sleepless nights.
She narrated the touching story of her friend who was disappointed by her boyfriend of five years when it was time to “settle down”.
“My friend was 29 when he met this man in Benin and they dated for five years. The man was always giving the lady hope without her knowing the man had other plans. The year he fixed for their marriage was the year he travelled abroad without even informing my friend.
“It was later he called her and asked her to find another man because he still had many more years to hustle. My friend almost went mad.
“She is 36 now without a man. I had to convince her to relocate to Lagos so that possibly out of the population here, she would find someone. It is pathetic,” she said.

A 38-year old business woman in Ketu, Mrs. Rita Adewunmi, narrated how she lost her first husband to a friend, Idayat, who was desperate for a husband.
According to Mrs. Adewunmi who remarried last year, Idayat was 36 and needed a husband but her search was endless.
“I was always encouraging her and made her a part of my family. She would always help me take care of the kids when I go to the market.

“With time, she took over my husband without my knowledge until the day I caught them red-handed and that was the end of my marriage. Ladies are like hunters these days,” she said.
Asked why she was not married at 34, Blessing Osuoha, a nurse with a private hospital in Abuja, retorted: “that is why I’m on this social site. Why are you asking? Is it a bad idea if you propose to me?”
She explained that life was becoming unbearable without a husband.

“My friends and family members are always asking when they would come and ‘chop’ rice, and I keep hoping,” she added.
A marriage counsellor in Lagos, Mrs. Victoria Aliu, told P.M.NEWS that scarcity of ‘real men’ is becoming a terrible condition for women ready for marriage.
She blamed the problem partly on the Nigerian economy, confusion among the bachelors on their choices of the women they want as wives and the attitudes of the spinsters.
“Many women, whether consciously or not, behave irritably sometimes, forgetting that the man just beside them at every point in time may just have been nursing how to start a conversation that could lead to marriage.

“Some other ladies are very choosy and unserious at their early stages of adulthood. They only open their eyes to discover that their friends are all married and that they are the only ones left at the bus stop. Then it becomes a terrible case for them,” she explained.

Man Kills Gay Partner In Hotel Room

Another social media love tragedy has occurred in Lagos after a homosexual allegedly murdered the male sex partner he met on facebook in a hotel room in Lagos.
A similiar incident happened in Festac in 2012 when Cynthia Osokogu’s facebook lovers lured her to Lagos and allegedly murdered her in a hotel room in  Festac Town, Lagos.
In the latest incident, the police at State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Yaba, arrested the 24-year old suspected murderer, Michael Okorocha, and the manager of the popular hotel at Oke Afa area of Lagos State, western Nigeria, over the murder of the 20-year old youth identified as Okere Chinedu John.
Okorocha allegedly used a jack knife and sliced John’s throat in the hotel room and he bled to death.
P.M.NEWS learnt that Okorocha and the late John suspected to be homosexuals, met on social media and became friends.
According to  police sources, Okorocha, who resides at Mafon Area in Ogun State, allegedly lured John who resides in Lekki-Ajah area of Lagos State to the hotel to have sex with him.
The police sources said that while they were inside the room, John resisted Okorocha’s attempt to have sex with him and in anger, Okorocha used a knife and sliced John’s throat and he bled to death.
After the incident, Okorocha reportedly lied to the hotel staff on duty that he wanted to buy something outside the hotel and escaped.
The following when the management went on routine check in the rooms at the hotel, they discovered the naked body of John with blood all over the room.
The matter was reported at Ejigbo police Station and the manager was arrested. The police later tracked down Okorocha through the help of his parents in Mafon area.
The matter was transferred to SCID, Panti, Yaba for further investigation.
Okorocha reportedly confessed to the police that he murdered John in anger.
He said after paying to lodge in the executive suite, John refused to satisfy him sexually, so he had to kill him.
When our reporter visited the hotel at the weekend, the hotel was still shut by the police.
A staff of the hotel who confirmed the incident declined to speak further on the matter.
The police have charged Okorocha before Ebute Meta Magistrates’ court with murder.
He was remanded in prison custody at Ikoyi Prison pending the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DDP.
In 2012, four suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of the daughter of a retired Major, Cynthia Osokogu.
The suspects are Okwumo Echezona Nwabufor, 33, Ezike Ilechukwu Olisaeloka, 23, Orji Osita, 32, and Maduakor Chukwunonso, 25.
They were slammed with  an eight-count charge of murder, armed robbery, administering the late Cynthia with obnoxious substance known as Rohyenol via Ribena fruit drink, among  others.
According to the charge, the suspects also had unlawful sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent.
Cynthia Osokogu, the only daughter of retired Major Frank Osokogu, was a post graduate student and boutique owner based in Nassarawa State.
She met the undergraduates, who later murdered her, through social networking site Facebook.
The principal suspects allegedly confessed to the police that they lured her to Lagos from her base in Nassarawa State under the pretext that they are also into clothing business.
After receiving her at the Murtala Muhammed airport in Lagos, they took her to a hotel in Festac Town.
Eloka said they later put Rohyenol tablet in her Ribena drink  and slept with her for about 12 hours.
After discovering that  Cynthia did not have a lot of money on her as they earlier presumed, they raped her for 12 hours and later strangled her.
Following the arrest and subsequent parade of  Olisaeloka and his cousin, Nwabufor, over the murder of Cynthia, three more ladies came forward, saying they were once victims of the alleged murderers.
The three women reportedly went to Festac Police Command to write a statement about how they were drugged, raped and robbed by the suspects now facing trial.

Germans beat Nigeria 1-0 and claim the under-20 Women’s World Cup

The Germans scored in the eighth minute of extra time to beat Nigeria 1-0 and claim the under-20 Women’s World Cup at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium on Sunday.
Coming into the final, Germany had scored in the last 10 minutes of a game in four of five contests. The victory is Germany’s record-tying third top finish at this competition, after winning the event in 2004 and 2010.
“Obviously, we never expected to be standing here as champions,” said German coach Maren Meinert through a translator. “Considering the teams we had to play against, we’re especially proud and happy to be here, to have achieved such an amazing thing.
“The game today was crazy, like all the other

Nigeria was the better team for much of the game, as the Falconets pinned the Germans in their own half for lengthy periods of time. Nigeria’s shots were dangerous and its crosses constantly threatened the German defence.
Midfielder Asisat Ochoala, who came into the game with a tournament-leading seven goals, was menacing throughout.
But it was Germany’s Lena Petermann who broke the deadlock in extra time, firing home from close range past goalkeeper Sandra Chiichii for her third goal of the competition.
Forward Pauline Bremer of Germany got the play going, stripping Nigeria’s Gladys Abasi of the ball on the edge of the 18-yard-box. Bremer walked in to the penalty area and squared the ball to Petermann, who scored Germany’s 17th goal of the tournament.
“We showed again today that we’re strong, physically,” said Meinert. “Each player wants to do everything until the last minute, until the whistle. We’ve played so many difficult games in this tournament. We know the pain, and we know how much it hurts.”

For the second time in four years, Germany were winners over Nigeria in the final of the under-20 tournament.
In 2010, with Meinert in charge, Germany’s Alexandra Popp scored early in the final to defeat Nigeria’s Falconets 2-0 in front of 24,633 in Bielefeld, Germany.
Nigerian coach Peter Dedevbo was looking for redemption on Sunday.
“We did our best to see that our image was redeemed,” said Dedevbo. “We had opportunities to win this match in the first half. We created chances, but we couldn’t take them. Germany had their chance and they took it.
“We had an opportunity in the finals, and we threw it away. My players had an opportunity to wrap it up, and they threw it away.”
Germany’s win wasn’t without controversy.
The Nigerians looked to have won the match and the title in the 85th minute of regular time when Oshoala, by far the game’s best player, beat German goalkeeper Meike Kaemper to the ball with a header.
With the ball trickling towards the goal line, an overzealous Loveth Ayila, Oshoala’s teammate, booted the ball in the back of the net for added emphasis. Ayila was in an offside position, however, and the goal was disallowed.
To make matters worse for Nigeria, video replay showed the ball had already crossed the line before Ayila got a foot on it.
“For that goal, I don’t want to say anything about it,” said Dedevbo. “I don’t want to answer your question. Because I will answer it in a way you wouldn’t like, in a way FIFA wouldn’t like.”
Kaemper, who made six saves on Sunday and was named the final’s best player, thought the call on the pitch was the right one.
“The girl who headed the ball was not offside, but in my opinion, the girl who took the shot on goal was offside,” she said through a translator.
It wasn’t the first time, either, that Ayila got in Oshoala’s way. The tournament’s leading scorer was denied a promising opportunity in the 38th minute when Ayila walked into her shot, deflecting it wide.
Oshoala had another glorious chance in the 22nd minute when she stole the ball from German defender Margarita Gidion, walked in on a breakaway, and sidestepped Kaemper before finding the side netting.
The game was 0-0 at halftime, with Nigeria directing nine shots towards target to Germany’s four.
But Germany began pulling away as the game wore on. Its best chance in regular time came late when Petermann walked in on the Nigerian net on a partial break in the 78th, but her shot was scooped up by Chiichii.
The Germans finished with 13 shots on target. Nigeria had six.
“We played a very compact game in the back,” said Kaemper. “We were able to prevent Nigeria from having many direct chances. Everyone worked together. You can’t defend perfectly against such a fast-paced and such a quick opponent.”
There were 15,822 in attendance at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium.
Earlier in the day, France beat North Korea 3-2 in the third-place match. France’s centre half Aissatou Tounkara scored the winner in the 79th minute to lead the Bleuettes to their first podium finish at the U-20 Women’s World Cup.
“Our goal, at the very beginning, was to reach the final day, which we did,” said French captain Griedge Mbock Bathy. “The bronze medal is a good reward and we’re going to celebrate.”
In the semifinals, Nigeria beat North Korea 6-2, while Germany won 2-1 versus France.

Why Davido Denied Entry Into Cameroon

Davido was stopped from entering Cameroon last week, for no other reason than the deadly Ebola virus which has killed and infected several people in Nigeria.

The chartered aircraft of the ‘Skelewu’ crooner was turned back because flights originating from Nigeria were not cleared to land in that country.
‎According to sources, “his people tried different means, even attempting to go in through Ghana, but they met brick walls.

Davido was set to perform in the country’s capital,Yaounde last Saturday, Aug 16, at the country’s first Lady’s Chantel Biya’s foundation in promoting of education and health among young Cameroonians.
But instead of making the cancellation announcement in a language understood by all, he chose to do it in French when he took to
twitter
 Sunday, Aug 17.
“je suisde n pas pouvoir etre present ce soir a younde pour le show avec mes fans. Mon absence est due aux restrictions causees par le virus Ebola. Une date sera programmes tres vite. Je vous aimes. O.B.O”, he tweeted

Everton 2-2 Arsenal (Giroud 90 minute GOAL!!!

This draw will feel like a victory to Arsenal, and a defeat to Everton. The home side were so much better than the visitors for 83 minutes. But Arsenal refused to give up, and could easily have won the game at the end. A brilliant show of determination by Arsenal, though Everton will take many positives from their performance too, when the sting of conceding a second late equaliser in two weeks dies down. The first heavyweight showdown of the season wasn’t too bad

The first half went much as this fixture did last season: Everton were far better, quicker, and more physical. Arsene Wenger picked Mesut Ozil, only just back in training after the World Cup and not noted for his defensive work even when fit, on the left wing against the division's premier attacking right back Seamus Coleman and paid for that odd call with the opening goal, scored by Coleman after 18 minutes when Ozil failed to track his back post run.
Roberto Martinez, just as he'd done last season, fielded Romelu Lukaku wide on the right against Nacho Monreal and was rewarded for that with the second goal on the stroke of half time, finished by Naismith at the end of a marauding run by the Belgian. Arsenal will, quite rightly, say that should have been disallowed for offside, or a foul in the build up, but overall it looked like they would only have themselves to blame for yet another comfortable, heavy defeat on the road against a top four rival.
On came Olivier Giroud, who admits himself he's not fit or sharp enough after a prolonged summer. Arsenal improved. Off went Jack Wilshere, ineffective once again, and on came Santi Cazorla. Arsenal took over. The Spaniard was wonderful, cunning, crafty. He laid a first goal on a plate for Aaron Ramsey and with Everton now defending so deep the back four really should have been charged for tickets in the front row of the stand behind the goal, the unlikely comeback looked on.
So it proved. An injury time cross from the left by Monreal was powered in at the near post by Giroud. Had the game lasted another five minutes, Arsenal probably would have won. Everton will wonder what on earth happened. Arsenal fans will be unsure exactly how to feel about this - all the usual deficiencies, but refusing to cave in as they did last season.

QuoteArsenal's Mathieu Flamini says: "We’ll say it’s a great performance form the team because being 2-0 down was not easy for us. Being 2-0 down was a bit unfair for us, but great spirit from the boys to come back. The manager said at half time there was space to create opportunities and come back. We believed in the possibility and we did it. Last year we came here and lost 3-0 so this was a great performance.

Beware of strange reverend sisters........DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has advised the public to be vigilant following the stealing of 13 pieces of “Catholic Reverend Sisters’ Regalia’’ from  a tailor’s shop in Kano.
This is contained in a statement issued by Ms Marilyn Ogar, the spokeswoman of the service, In Abuja on Saturday.
The statement stated that unidentified persons broke into the shop at 55, Odutola Street, Sabon Gari, Kano, on Aug. 20, and made away with the regalia.
“With the recent trend of female suicide bombings in the country, the theft of these regalia heightens concerns about the possibility of terrorist elements using same to perpetrate act of terror.
“Consequently, the service wishes to draw the attention of the public to this development, and call on citizens to be more circumspect and exercise vigilance with users of such peculiar attire,’’ it stated.
The statement urged the public to cooperate with security agencies through the provision of useful information on suspected activities in their immediate environments. (NAN)

Many families hide EBOLA patients in their homes

Ebola continues to spread in West Africa as Sierra Leone voted to pass a new amendment imposing jail time for anyone caught hiding an Ebola patient.
With 142 new cases recorded, the total number is now 2,615 with 1,427 deaths, the World Health Organization said Friday. The group added that the magnitude of the Ebola outbreak has been "underestimated."
"Many families hide infected loved ones in their homes," the organization wrote in an assessment. "Others deny that a patient has Ebola and believe that care in an isolation ward — viewed as an incubator of the disease — will lead to infection and certain death. Most fear the stigma and social rejection that come to patients and families when a diagnosis of Ebola is confirmed."
Most of the new cases are in Liberia. So far, that country has record 1,082 cases and 624 deaths. New treatment centers are overwhelmed by patients that were not previously identified.
One center with 20 beds opened its doors to 70 possibly infected people, likely coming from "shadow-zones" where people fearing authorities won't let doctors enter, the U.N. health agency said.
"This phenomenon strongly suggests the existence of an invisible caseload of patients who are not being detected by the surveillance system," the agency said. This has "never before been seen in an Ebola outbreak."
The government in Liberia was delivering donated rice to a slum where 50,000 people have been sealed off from the rest of the capital in an attempt to contain the outbreak.
Sierra Leone has recorded at least 910 cases and 392 deaths. The World Health Organization believes the hiding of Ebola patients in the country has contributed to a major underestimation of the current outbreak.
The country's new law, enacted to compel residents to cooperate with government officials, was passed on Friday and imposes prison terms of up to two years for violators, said lawmaker Ansumana Jaiah Kaikai.
The Ivory Coast announced late Friday it was closing land borders with neighboring Guinea and Liberia. Gabon, Senegal, South Africa and Cameroon had all earlier in the week imposed restrictions on some or all of the four countries with confirmed Ebola cases.
Speaking in parliament on Friday, Sierra Leone majority leader Ibrahim Bundu said Sierra Leone had suffered "abandonment and isolation from those we viewed to be our biggest friends" in the region and beyond.
"These ugly developments are evidenced in the cancellations of flights, closing of borders, reduction of operational hours of banks and further isolation by shutting down businesses at the time of greatest need," he said, adding lawmakers would soon review the country's partnerships "so as to form a permanent record of who are true friends are."
Some countries continue to impose travel restrictions, even though they aren't recommended by the U.N. health agency.
On Friday, the Central African country of Gabon announced it was barring all flights and ships from Ebola-stricken countries. South Africa already announced a travel ban for non-citizens from these countries "unless the travel is considered absolutely essential." Senegal closed its borders with Guinea and is barring air or sea travel from Sierra Leone and Liberia. Cameroon barred flights from Nigeria.
On Saturday, the Philippine government said it was recalling 115 peacekeepers from Liberia because of the health risk posed by Ebola.
Meanwhile, two new cases emerged in Nigeria, where patients were quarantined two days ago while being tested, Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu said Friday.Authorities are now trying to identify and monitor everyone they have been in contact with. In all, 213 people are now under surveillance in Nigeria.
