Can a day go by without Kim Kardashian grabbing attention or headlines for merely existing in places with other pretty people? One might think that there was not much of her left to the imagination with the sex tape, overly revealing clothing and such. But, Kim Kardashian and reportedly her photos have now been linked to the nude photo leak that left a lot of female celebs overexposed.
The explicit images appear to be selfies of Kim Kardashian. The ones shared on Twitter show the 33-year-old in front of a bathroom mirror.
This is the second set of nude photos of celebrities from entertainment and sports that have been stolen by hackers and posted on the Internet. Unconfirmed reports listing names of other women whose images were supposedly involved in the latest release have included Hayden Panettiere, Leelee Sobieski, Avril Lavigne, Hope Solo, Vanessa Hudgens, Aubrey Plaza and Lake Bell.
Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Kirsten Dunst, Rihanna, McKayla Maroney and Kaley Cuoco were among the estimated 100 female celebrities whose nude images were leaked over Labor Day weekend. That prompted the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Apple to start an investigation into the alleged hacking.
There were various other reactions, such as Cuoco’s humorous posting of an edited “nude” photo of her and her husband. “I try to have a sense of humor about a really unfortunate situation,” Dunst has publicly responded. Maroney’s lawyers made it really clear that the gymnast only recently turned 18, so the leaked photos were taken (or reportedly photoshopped with her image) when she was underage.
Apple called the first leak a targeted attack of iCloud accounts of certain celebrities. The company claimed the stars had their passwords stolen or were victims of phishing efforts, not a widespread security problem. It clearly is a gross violation of the women’s privacy. Recognizing the theft issue and the violation of privacy involved, several of the Web sites that posted the private images have now adopted a low tolerance policy for allowing leaked personal photos like these to stay up.
If the new photos of Kardashian are genuine, it will not the first time that nonpublic images of the Keeping up With the Kardashians star in the buff have been leaked. In 2007, a 39-minute sex tape she made with ex-boyfriend Ray J were posted online without her consent but catapulted the relatively unknown reality star into the public eye. It also earned her millions after she struck a deal with the rights holders.
It is a little hard to be sympathetic with someone whose whole livelihood is built around exposing herself, not doing anything. Kardashian has appeared nude for magazines like British GQ and W as well as one of her husband’s music videos. However overexposed Kim Kardashian has been, though, the leak of her nude photos and those of all the others being released without the women’s consent is wrong and the public should not support the photo leaks like these by downloading or looking at the images. They deserve to retain their privacy.
